—Advanced Metering Infrastructure
Every drop, visible — down to the last meter.
Our Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program is replacing aging meters across our 17 county service area with smart, wireless-enabled devices that give you real-time insight into your water use and give our crews the data to run a tighter, more responsive system.

—WHY IT MATTERS
A win for customers, a win for WUM.
AMI isn’t just a hardware swap. It changes how you understand your own usage and how our teams operate day to day.
01 Real-time alerts, not just data Once your portal account is active, you can turn on alerts for things like leaks, unusual consumption, or a bill trending past your usual threshold — sent the moment they happen, not after your next bill arrives. |
02 Real-time usage visibility Log into your Customer Portal and see consumption as it happens, rather than waiting for a bi-monthly bill to find out what happened.
03 Early leak detection Unusual flow patterns show up quickly, so you can catch a running toilet or a slow pipe leak before it turns into a costly repair.
04 Safer field operations Wireless reads mean fewer crew members walking through yards and neighborhoods to check meters by hand, cutting exposure to everyday field hazards.
05 Fewer truck rolls Move-ins and move-outs can be handled remotely by office staff instead of dispatching a technician to the property, saving time and fuel.
06 Stronger system planning Granular consumption data helps our engineers plan capacity, spot pressure issues, and manage the network with far more precision than manual reads ever allowed. |
"Advanced metering has made us a more efficient organization. We see problems in the system sooner and get crews to them faster, and a lot of questions that used to require a truck can now be answered from the office. Fewer trips means lower operating costs, and that helps us hold the line on what our customers pay."
"We can now see a customer's water use in 15-minute increments instead of a single total for the billing cycle. So when someone calls with a question, we can walk through their actual usage with them and pinpoint the day and the hour it happened."
